by Michelle Magdeline
An Abstract Expressionist painter, Michelle Magdeline Gallucci was born July 14, 1962 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After being educated in Saskatoon and Victoria, she traveled throughout the islands of Japan where she was heavily impacted by the juxtaposition between the serenity of Japanese architectural landscapes within the construct of mega high rises, masses of people and a sense of detached privacy.
Michelle began several years of art instruction in the 1980’s with water color and made the transition to acrylic/multi-media in the mid-90’s to enhance the visual and textural aspect of the work she wanted to produce. Influenced by Wassily Kandinsky, Helen Frankenthaler and Koshiro Onchi, her paintings examine the space created when the freedom of movement, spirit and conflict declare their presence through relations of color. Color is emotional and provides the senses with immediate satisfaction which Michelle uses as a starting point for every piece.
